Adoption Public Service Announcement 〰️
So I’ve been holding on to this for a few days debating whether I should say anything. I don’t want to disparage anyone or the agency here. I decided to comment so others who may be outside our circle of friends who may be looking for information on adoption might learn.
We learned, while in Bogota, just during a casual conversation with one of the FANA representatives that our dossier was “lost” on “ forgotten about”. The rep stated they had never experienced anything like that before. We were only rediscovered when an inquiry came in for a status check on our case.
We found this odd since we would touch base with our agency back home on a monthly basis or even our inquiries regarding children with special needs on the website. Not sure how we were forgotten but we were.
Now, this explains why the process took sooooo loooong! We certainly are an exception to the timeline which honestly should have been around 2-years start to finish….
…but you know what?! We believe in a providential God. We gave our lives over to his will in this process & have trusted him without reservations (at least we’ve prayed for the trust with no reservations because it doesn’t & hasn’t always come naturally). It has been scary quite frankly. But God had this little boy designed/designated for our lives. God is good…He is great…He is Awesome.
So for those in the process, call for updates…frequently. Be the squeaky wheel. Nobody in this process can advocate for your family better than you. And always, pray without ceasing. And personal advice based on personal experience, include St. Joseph in your prayers. I’m telling you, 2 of our 3 adoptions (probably all 3 but as a silent advocate), he has been a key figure and advocate for us.
